Special Relativity and Magnetism



1. When and object is moving relative to you it will take less space than when it is moving.

2. Time passes slower for an observers moving relative to you.

3. Suppose copper wire carrying positive and negative charges ,since their density is uniformly distributed that conductor is electrically neutral.

4. If the negative charges are moving also ,those moving out will be replaced by charges than move in so the net electrical charge will be nullified and conductor remains neutral.

5. Suppose the cat is moving in the same direction of electron then for an observer watching this the net electrical charge distribution inside the section of conductor remains same.

6. But on the perspective of charge it is the positive charge inside the conductor which is moving and the negative charge is stationary applying special relativity mentioned above.


We can reach on certain conclusions that
1. since positive charges are moving it will occupy less space between them.
2. negative charges are not moving so the space occupied between them is more.

7. Now the uniformity has lost and we have more positive charge in that section of conductor than negative charge and the conductor is positive and it will repel the positive charge outside the conductor.

8. For an observer watching this, it seems a fictitious force that repel the positive charge , and that force is called MAGNETIC force.
